Shutterbugs of the world, unite! And hurry, cause the world is ending! That’s the scenario Xbox gamers will find themselves in when Umurangi Generation Special Edition launches for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass on May 17th. The special edition of this critically acclaimed indie darling from ORIGAME DIGITAL and PLAYISM includes the base game, the Macro DLC that adds new levels and features to the game, and general, quality-of-life improvements to the original experience.
Umurangi Generation Special Edition puts players in the shoes of a courier who also happens to love taking photos. And there are plenty of picturesque photo ops around, as a series of disasters have turned the sky red. As the world crumbles around them, players are tasked with a series of deliveries to different parts of the city. Along the way, they’ll receive special Photo Bounties that challenge players to take the most creative and inspired photos they can.
Players will be graded based on a variety of factors for their photos, but there’s no wrong way to proceed through the game. As the game’s developer, Naphtali Faulkner puts it “You cannot punish creativity. In this game the objectives can be completed in thousands of different ways.” To promote that, players are provided with a robust set of tools to edit and develop their photos in unique ways to meet each of the Photo Bounties.
Umurangi Generation Special Edition draws inspiration from games like Jet Radio and Pokémon Snap. It was also inspired by Faulkner’s experience with the Australian bushfires that were left to rage out of control by an absentee government. As a result, lack of accountability in the face of severe disaster is a theme in the game.
Umurangi Generation Special Edition will launch on May 17th, 2022, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass. It is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
