Making games out of passion and with a smaller following can be a struggling fight to not only complete their project but get it known yet somehow these developers released their games and really reached out to their potential players. Being among those players, GameTyrant has put together our Top 5 Indie Games of 2020!
Indie Game of the Year - Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout by Mediatonic
Releasing their game at one of the most critical times of the year and bringing both friends and family together to face off in a bunch of mini-games with their quirky controls and mechanics, Fall Guys has brought joy and entertainment to millions of players around the world! Even at this point in the year, they continue to work on the game and bring out new content, so the fun is sure to continue into the next year as well. This game has had such a positive effect on the gaming community as a whole and was chosen by all of our team members to be a Top Indie Game, making the decision unanimous that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is the 2020 Indie Game of the Year!
Streets of Rage 4 by Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush
It’s not easy bringing a series back after over 25 years, yet these three teams worked together to provide a proper and fitting continuation title to the Streets of Rage series. Streets of Rage 4 is full of all the nostalgia that old gamers can love while also bringing a fresh take on the beat ‘em up genre as they introduce new enemies, new levels, and a new story that follows up after the third entry. This game has provided hours of entertainment for many players, both new and returning, and truly deserves a spot on our Top 5 list.
Rock of Ages 3 by ACE Team and Giant Monkey Robot
Bringing a game that is both fun while playing solo or with a friend and being a reminder that there is enjoyment in the wackiness of a silly experience, Rock of Ages 3 was a game that was refreshing for many players. Continuing a series that has been frankly underrated and pushing the boundaries to make this version even better than the last, these developers are given their players laughter through a strange, chaotic experience. Its unforgettable gameplay is what earned it a spot on our Top 5 list.
In Other Waters by Jump Over The Age
Mixing together mystery and fascination, In Other Waters takes players through a fantastic journey through an alien ocean. By guiding a stranded xenobiologist, players are taken through a beautiful world where they will get to unravel the history and ecology of an unknown planet. This unique experience also provided a story that was voted as the Best Storyline from the GameTyrant Top Games list as it truly has a remarkable story to tell along the way. This game is more than deserving a spot on our Top 5 list.
Someday You’ll Return by CBE Software
Taking players through a crazy experience of confusion and loss while facing various horrors, Someday You’ll Return was one of the most captivating horror games to release this year. Providing a story that always provided a new twist that changed your mind on what you thought was going on and giving a mixture of gameplay experiences that blended well together, this game was full of twists and turns that was intriguingly fun to go through from start to finish. Easily a title deserving of a Top 5 spot on our list.

As so many games are released, coming up with a Top 5 list isn’t an easy task to do since so many titles are truly great games as well. Now that we have narrowed down the actual Top 5 titles above, here are the games that were also in consideration but just didn’t make it into the final cut.
