New Sci-Fi Mecha Franchise SYNDUALITY Shown At State Of Play

A new third-person mech shooter has been announced at Sony’s State of Play, as part of an entirely new IP from Bandai Namco called Synduality. In a dystopic vision of the year 2222, a deadly rain and the creatures it has spawned have put humanity on the back foot. Seeking refuge underground, they eventually create the subterranean city of Amasia and encounter an AI known as Magus.

Judging by the words of producer Yosuke Futami, it looks like we can expect the narrative to explore the typical sci-fi themes of AI and our complex relationship with it.

You assume the role of a Drifter, which is someone who collects AO crystals, a vital resource found in the dangerous outside world. For protection, you will be piloting your mech, ominously titled the Cradle Coffin, which you can personalize and customize the equipment to meet your way of playing. The aforementioned Magus AI will also accompany you, acting as your wingman to offer support in the form of navigation and hints to keep you safe.

The game will also feature an online PvP mode, so you can encounter other players who are out completing their own missions, and who could be potential threats to yourself.

Synduality is being developed by Game Studio and will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is expected to arrive sometime in 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
